Manga Workshop

Japanese manga is well-known around the world. Many international students have started to learn Japanese because of their love for manga. So, to answer their wishes of experiencing manga-making in the manga paradise of Japan, we organized a manga workshop.

First, a professional cartoonist gave us a lecture about marks used in manga such as balloon and frame division. And then the lecturer taught us about the rules applied in manga making. For examples: Why are there many different shapes of balloon? Why is there a line drawn behind a running person?; Why does a frame suddenly become pitch dark while the scene is not set at night? What does the blacking represent? Etc.

Participants tried manga making, using G-pen, ink, whiteout, which tools professional cartoonists actually use. Participants were so serious and concentrated that the lecturer got impressed.
